Smoothie Bowl

My new favorite breakfast…smoothie bowls! So delicious, so easy to make and a healthy way to start off your day. The beauty of these bowls is that they can be different every time you make one, depending on what you have on hand. Any type of frozen fruit…bananas, berries, mango, pineapple, cherries are great to add in. Whenever I have bananas that are too ripe I cut them up and freeze them for smoothies. I also love to add in veggies and greens. Spinach is a favorite and frozen cauliflower is also nice. Unsweetened coconut, protein powder and ground flax seeds are regular add ins for me, whatever you like!

 

 

I recently discovered Spirulina which gives this smoothie bowl its gorgeous bright green color. A serving of Spirulina is equivalent to 3-4 servings of fruits and vegetables and a great antioxidant. It also helps with immune defense, cardiovascular health, cellular health and has anti-aging benefits, I’ll take it!!

 

 

My liquid of choice for my smoothie bowls is unsweetened almond milk but you could use coconut milk, coconut water, soy milk or cashew milk to name a few. Whatever you like.  I use my food processor to make these beauties, my regular blender isn’t able to handle how thick I like them to be. I’m hoping to get a Vitamix blender for Christmas (hint, hint). They are pricey but I hear they are the best!

Always add your liquid first, then all your fruits, vegetables and other ingredients. Mix until thick and smooth and pour into a bowl.

 

 

Then comes the fun part, decorating the top with fresh fruit, coconut flakes, nuts, edible flowers…whatever you like!
