I know there are so many of you out there doing the #JanuaryWhole30…bravo! I have completed two rounds of Whole30 and it has been a life changing program for me. I learned so much about what foods were having a negative impact for me. Whole30 is a great reset and paved the way for me to give up alcohol, cut way down on sugar, and adopt a permanent clean eating lifestyle. If you want to learn more click on this link for the Whole30 website; so much information there. The Whole30 book is also a great place to start and essential to have if you are planning to do the program. Click this link to check it out.
I have so many favorite recipes that are Whole30 compliant that have become a permanent part of my dinner rotations. Melissa Hartwig, co founder of Whole30, has published two cookbooks; The Whole30 Cookbook and Whole30 Fast & Easy, click on their links to check them out. I have both and use them all the time.
Meals are easy for me while on Whole30, but I do struggle with snacks. In the afternoons I am on the prowl for something to graze on and I used to grab cheese and crackers or chips. These days I grab a piece of fruit, some veggies or my most favorite; Frozen Cherries with Almond Butter. I love this combo so much and I feel like I am having a treat.I always have a bag of Trader Joe’s frozen cherries in my freezer. My favorite almond butter comes from Vitamin Cottage/Natural Grocers. The only ingredient is dry roasted unblanched almonds, a very simple and clean almond butter option. I use 1/2 – 1 cup frozen cherries depending on how hungry I am and top them with 1 tablespoon of almond butter. If you are on Whole30, Frozen Cherries and Almond Butter are a lifesaver. If you’re not doing a Whole30 try this snack the next time you are reaching for some ice cream or chips. It will help curb your sweet and savory cravings, and you will be happy that you opted for a healthier choice.
